Returning home from a six-month trip, I found a chalk 'X' on my apartment door. I wiped it off, but it reappeared that night. Unable to sleep due to blaring cartoon music from the neighbor's unit, I banged on their door to complain. The next morning, the 'X' on my door had been changed to an 'O'. Hearing the neighbor's deadbolt slowly unlock behind me, I realized with absolute certainty that I was about to die.
