The Porcelain Survivor

A frantic man bursts into the precinct. "You have exactly twenty-four hours to find my girlfriend!" he screams. The detectives exchange grim looks. A notorious serial killer has been terrorizing the city, leaving young women dead—meticulously dressed in elaborate Victorian gowns, their faces caked in heavy makeup, posed to look like life-sized porcelain dolls. Given the pattern, finding her alive seems impossible. Yet, just a few hours later, a patrol car spots her on the side of a dark highway. She is wearing the exact same ornate dress, her face painted with the killer’s signature heavy doll makeup. But unlike all the others, she is still breathing.
