The Crimson Trap
Puzzle
Jack wakes up trapped in a windowless concrete bunker. The heavy steel door won't budge, and his screams go unanswered. The only illumination comes from a glaring, blood-red emergency strobe on the ceiling, bathing everything in a sinister crimson wash.
In the corner sits an old refrigerator. Taped to its door is a typed note outlining three rules:
1. The wall safe contains the exit key. The code is 8686.
2. The fridge contains enough safe drinking water to keep you alive.
3. You can only trust messages written in black ink.
(P.S. At least two of these rules are true.)
Squinting in the red light, Jack spots a frantic, handwritten scrawl at the very bottom of the page, seemingly written in black ink: "DO NOT enter 5554! It's wired to a bomb! The real code is 8686!"
Calmly analyzing the situation, Jack deduces this is a lifeline from a previous victim. Validated by Rule 3, he steps up to the wall safe and confidently punches in 8686.
*BOOM.* The safe detonates instantly, obliterating him. As the flames consume him, Jack's final agonizing thought is: *Would 5554 have saved my life?*
