Force of Habit

The glare was unbearable, pulling me out of a dreamless sleep. Instinct took over; I found the switch, killed the light, and sank back into the pillows, grateful for the sudden darkness. But this morning, staring out the window at the devastation on the shore below, I realized that one moment of comfort had likely cost hundreds of lives.
