The Guardian's Lament

I am bound to this tiny, confined space. My sole purpose is to send the newcomers to face *Him*. I have watched the same man get slaughtered countless times, only for him to reappear before me moments later, entirely unscathed. Every single time, I beg him to turn back. I warn him to be careful. Yet, my body betrays me, and I always point him toward the slaughter. I cannot leave this place, nor can I fight in his stead. I am cursed to repeat the exact same warning. Today, he finally won. He walked past the gates and never looked back. I am relieved, yet my heart aches. I know he will never visit me again.
