Turtle Soup
Puzzle
A man walks into a restaurant and orders turtle soup. After a single spoonful, he calls over the chef and asks, "Is this really turtle soup?" The chef assures him that it is. The man pays his bill, goes home, and takes his own life that night.
Why?
Detective Hints
- Q1: One spoonful was enough. What exactly happened in the seconds between the spoon and the question to the chef?
- Q2: Why would a taste matter more than a knife? What was he comparing this soup to?
- Q3: If the survivors lied about the name, what did they not lie about — and why would they do it?
- Q4: So what killed him — and how do we know it was not something on the table?
