Family Dinner

Day 1: The woman claiming to be my mother slammed a plate of wet, grey meat on the table. I refused to eat. Her jaw unhinged with a sickening crack, and she screamed until I swallowed a bite. Day 2: I tried to sneak out while 'Dad' was in the garage. The little girl who calls me 'brother' found me. She didn't scream. She just giggled, pointing a long, pale finger back at my room. 'Not ripe yet,' she whispered. Day 3: I can hear them sharpening knives in the kitchen. They are arguing over which parts to roast. I am shaking so hard my teeth act like a metronome in the silence. Day 4: The table is finally set. The main course is steaming in the center, perfectly charred. Watching the family tear into the meat and lap up the dark red sauce, I stop shaking. For the first time in days, I feel completely weightless and at peace.

True Colors

Young Lily stared at the failing '38' on her math test. Terrified of her father's temper, she grabbed a pen from the drawer and carefully closed the curves, turning the '3' into an '8'. To her eyes, the alteration was seamless. She presented the paper to her father at dinner, praying he wouldn't notice the ink difference. He looked at the grade, his face draining of color. He didn't yell at Lily. Instead, he stood up in absolute silence, walked into the kitchen, and stabbed his wife.

The Prophecy of Three

[Stormy Night. The Blackwood Manor Library] **Arthur (The Dying Patriarch):** "The Family Almanac is never wrong. On the night of the heir's choosing, three signs will herald the King's death: The Wind shall hold its breath, the Water shall bleed dry, and the Light shall be swallowed." **Marcus (Eldest Son):** "Dad, stop with the fairy tales. The lawyer is waiting. Who gets the company?" **Elena (Daughter):** "Wait... Marcus, stop talking. The storm. The howling outside... it just cut off completely." **Arthur (Wheezing):** "The Wind... holds its breath." **Julian (Second Son, calmly pouring tea):** "Coincidence. Here, father, your medicine." *(A sharp crack. The ceramic pot in Julian's hand shatters spontaneously, dark liquid hissing as it spills onto the hot fireplace logs.)* **Arthur (Trembling):** "The Water... bleeds dry!" **Julian:** "And if I recall the verse correctly..." *(Click. The heavy chandelier flickers and dies. The room plunges into absolute darkness.)* **Arthur:** "The Light! It's here! No—!" *(A wet gasp, a heavy thud, and then silence.)*

The Late Night Order

I smiled groggily when I heard the delivery driver say, "Here's your food," and a voice from the hallway replied, "Thanks, looks great." But as the deadbolt slid home, I stopped breathing and pulled the duvet over my head, tears streaming down my face in silence.

Filthy Habits

I shriek with ecstasy as I wallow in the brown mire, letting the sludge coat my skin. My parents loom over me, watching. They are massive, and they are definitely not human, but I know they love me.

The Forever Friend

After three years on the waiting list, the reinforced bio-hazard crate from the avant-garde biotech firm finally arrived. The included 'Care Log' was a book of blank pages, symbolizing a creature that defied the laws of entropy, while leaked footage of previous owners showed them sitting in catatonic stupors, staring unblinkingly at the subject for days on end. The promotional videos were terrifying, proving the entity could withstand blast furnaces and the crushing pressures of the deep ocean without a scratch. Trembling, I deactivated the sound-dampening field, expecting a roar, but was met with silence. I reached in, my fingers grazing cold, rough, grey skin, and only when I saw the gold-stamped logo on the bottom did I realize I had spent my life savings on the only thing that is truly immortal.

The Living Alibi

The Blackwood brothers were identical twins living in a secluded estate. A massive oak tree grew against the back of the house, its heavy branches pressing right up against the older brother, Arthur's, bedroom window. One afternoon, police swarmed the house responding to a 911 call about a dead body in the master bathroom. Officers secured the perimeter immediately—no one left the premises. Yet, inside, the bathroom was spotless. No blood. No body. Ten minutes into the frantic search, the younger twin, Ben, walked in through the front door, holding a bag of groceries, looking utterly confused by the chaos. Just as the detective began to question him, a groggy, irritated shout erupted from Arthur's closed bedroom upstairs: "Will you people keep it down? I'm trying to sleep!" The police apologized and left, ruling it a prank call. But the corpse was in the house the entire time.

How a yes/no riddle works

Question tactics that work

How yes/no riddles work

Most people know the party version: someone reads out a strange little scenario, everyone else asks questions, and the reader may only say yes, no, or irrelevant. The constraint is the point. You cannot ask "What happened?", so you have to build the answer from small, testable facts.

The same format is called a situation puzzle or a lateral thinking puzzle, and in East Asia it became a huge online pastime as Turtle Soup. A good riddle always has a fair answer: every word of the setup is true, and the surprise comes from an assumption you made without noticing.

A good first run of questions

Take any riddle and open with three kinds of questions. First, who and what: is anyone dead, is every person actually a person, is every object what it sounds like? Second, when and where: is it the present day, the real world, a single scene? Third, cause: did the key event happen long before the moment we are shown? Five or six questions like these usually remove half of all possible stories before you ever name a theory.

Then narrow down. Ask "Did it happen before he walked in?" rather than "Did someone plan this because of an old grudge?" A question that tests one idea gets a clean answer; a question that stacks three ideas gets a muddy one. When a string of answers stops making sense, one of your assumptions is wrong, so flip it and ask the opposite.

Playing alone or with friends

Traditionally one player has to know the answer and keep a straight face. With an AI host that job is covered: it knows every solution, answers consistently, and never gets tired of "Was it raining?" You can solve a puzzle alone in a few minutes, or open a room and share the link so friends ask together. Start with the easy puzzles, and keep the rules open if you want a refresher.

FAQ

What is a yes/no riddle?
A mystery where you question the host and may only get yes, no, or irrelevant back. Instead of guessing the solution in one leap, you build it from many small, confirmed facts.
Is this the same as the yes or no game?
Yes. The "yes or no game", "yes no game" and "yes no question game" all describe the same idea: one player hides a story and the others ask questions that can only be answered yes or no. Here the AI host plays the hiding side, so you can start any time without a group.
Are yes/no riddles good for groups?
Yes. They need no equipment, work with any group size, and everybody can test ideas. Share a room link and ask together.
Can I play without a human host?
Yes. The AI host knows the solution and answers instantly, so you can play alone, any time.
What does irrelevant mean?
The question is a fair true-or-false question about the world, but it has nothing to do with the hidden story. It is not a failure. It tells you where not to dig.
What if a question is only half right?
The AI host can answer Both when a question is partly true and partly false. Treat it as a sign to split the question in two and ask each half separately.
Are answers included?
Every puzzle has a full solution, shown after you solve it or choose to reveal it. If you would rather read classic riddles with their answers first, our blog has a list.
Can I play for free?
Yes. Guests can ask 15 questions without creating an account.
